Its been a while since I updated this, but my short-term running goals are simple: to keep running.

Long term...mmm...hard one, just continue running and having the luck a running races to keep on the edge, every so often.

I have had that exact same pain when I first started running and it was from tying my shoelaces too tight above that part of the foot. Once I tied my shoes looser it went away. It should feel better really soon get some rest!

Better April, thanks. Don't think I got the right ankle hurt really, but very close. Its was sore and had a little limp while walking. If you place your foot on the floor and try to lift your toes towards you, that is when I had/have the most pain....

Oh wow Eric that is EXACTLY the same place and pain that I had when my shoelaces were tied too tight. It may be the shoes you were wearing are structured too tightly on top of your foot for you and that is why they made your ankle hurt--they are just not built for your feet. Ditch the shoes! I am glad you are not seriously injured--a little shoe change and some rest and you are good to go, right?

At this rate I'm going to run out of shoes !

Nike vomero, out (torn heel, mileage cap)

See? Maybe its the runner and not the shoes....but need to make another try without tying tighly the shoelaces...maybe ...

I loosened up the shoelaces and was pain-free in about a week. Hope it's the same deal and you recover quickly. Of course now I am obsessed with lacing up and tying my shoelaces just right and sometimes I sit there tying and re-tying until it feels right. It is really bad before a race--I can waste 20 minutes obsessing about how my shoes are tied.

The way a normally tie my shoelaces is just before I tighten them, I lift the arch of the foot, tighten, and then release the foot; this way there is a little "flexibility" but I guess something was done wrong, at least the last time...

I think a lot of it has to do with higher mileage. The body is a lot more sensitive to little things at 50 miles a week than it is at 30 miles a week. I've got black toenails on both feet now--something that never happened at lower mileage but one little mishap with a shoelace or a too tight sock and BAM something hurts or is unhappy about it. It is probably all an adjustment phase.

I notice you wear the same kind of shoes as me Eric! The adidas supernova has been a long time favourite of mine, and I think the name has changed now (I'm still on a couple of older pairs). As for the asics 2140, was it the back of the shoe rubbing on your achilees that was the problem? If so you can cut away with a knife the offending bit of the shoe!

Depending on how much support you need there is the asics ds trainer (you could always use it as a race day trainer too).

Do you alternate which shoes you wear everyday? I find that helps a little

I bought the Adidas Supernova because I could not find anything better here, at the beginning, I really did not like them very much, but the last few months, we have grown into a deep relationship...I'm even thinking of renewing them ...

I'm afraid to cut the 2140's, since the Nike Vomeros had a cut on the heel pad that really made a bad blister on my heel. So afraid it could happen again. Still under supervision, but using them...

I'm using the supernovas on Mon, Wed & Fri; 2140's on Tue & Thu; Cumulus on Sat or races.

Asics are not sold in stores here in Mexico. I saw them on a web site but would prefer to try them on first...
