Wow Eric tough run! Just keep being consistent--your lungs will heal more from the smoking and your body will learn to sync up the breathing--good that you run well by feel!

OK good to know. Congratulations on a sub-6:30 mile. The reason you could not go longer was not the lack of speed work. You still lack aerobic fitness. Which is to be expected at this point.

I think it would be safe to go out at about 4:40 per K pace in the half.

Training wise just continue to run base mileage. Then we will see how your races go one race at a time and re-evaluate.

I'm with Sasha on this one.

Keep building up the base. This was a great diagnostic run to see where you are, and after a few more weeks (maybe a month or two), another diagnostic could be run to gauge the improvement in your fitness.

Once you get to a point at which you feel your aerobic fitness has reached an acceptable level (a point that can and should be defined by you, given that you could run base aerobic mileage indefinitely), implementing regular speedwork of gradually increasing intensity will be the next step.

Solid run, and congrats on the fast mile...

I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how much improvement you will see in a few short months if you continue with your current mileage and consistency!

April, thanks for the encouragement. Legs felt fine, its was all in the breathing, I could not get into mode to synchronize breathing and running (this I do in my run and help me control my breathing).

Sasha, thanks for the evaluation. I understand the lack of fitness because of base mileage and will continue to work on this the rest of the year. 4:40 pace, that would be about a 1:38 HM right? Sounds do-able, will give best shot, maybe by then I'll be in a little bit of better shape.

Nevels, thanks for your comments. Will try putting some speedwork gradually into program once my HM is done (first week of september). By then I should be doing the 10 daily miles (hopefully).

I'm also very happy that I ran by "feeling" other than "Garmin". My wife used a normal stopwatch to take times.
